Don’t you find it harder and harder each year to come up with a fun party theme for your little one? Sure when they were babies and toddlers you could pretty much do whatever cute thing you liked. Um…that lasted til about their third birthday if you’re lucky. Now that they’re older they want to have their say, and of course they should with a teeny bit of help from mom, dad, and in our case Nana! One of my favorite party themes is a Science Birthday Party!
Why do I like it so much? Well, it’s age appropriate until they’re almost in high school, just change the science! A Science Birthday Party is such a broad theme you could literally use it every year until the kids are in high school just by changing the focus. I mean science is such a broad term, it could mean chemistry, geology, botany, anatomy, medicine, space, and even computers!
Having said that here are a few ideas to get you started!

Ice Cream or Soda Lab
I love this Ice Cream Lab by Left Brain Craft Brain! I mean a Science Birthday Party would not be complete without a lab right?
If you prefer make it a Soda Lab and the guests can add different syrups to their sodas which of course will be served in beakers! And the toppings can be placed in test tubes!
Or how about we combine the two and make an Ice Cream Soda Lab!
Here’s a cute idea – serve ice cream, soda, or whatever in DIY “Beakers”
Just make lines on clear plastic cups with a sharper and you’ve got “Beakers”!
Science Themed Labels
Add science themed labels, tags, and decor. Love the water bottle labels by Clever Pink Pirate!
Looking for a photo booth backdrop? How about covering the wall with the Periodic table using a piece of construction paper for each element?
Use Science supplies for food like these Petri Jello! Love this idea from One Project Closer!
Fun Badges make great party favors
I just love the badges pictured above. Just print out a name tag on card stock for each guest then place them in transparent holders with lanyards to wear around their necks. Make it even more fun and give each kid a “Top Secret” clearance!
Science Themed Games and Activities
There are many science “projects” the kids can do to keep them busy, like building molecules with toothpicks and gumdrops – mini marshmallows work too!
You can make your own experiments or buy kits the kids can use. There are many to choose from! They can dig for fossils; create crystals; or build a volcano!
You don’t have to buy pre-made kits, think back to your school days. Remember building and electromagnet? All you need is a large battery, wire, and nails! Or play a game of Operation!
Whatever game or activity you decide on just be sure it’s age appropriate and doesn’t contain sharp objects or harmful chemicals. I wouldn’t suggest dissecting a frog just yet!

The holidays are over so now it’s time to turn to Winter Birthday Parties. If your child has a Winter Birthday then you know how challenging a party can be.
A Winter Birthday pretty much calls for an indoor venue, unless you plan on taking everyone skiing, ice skating, or dog sledding. Not bad ideas if you live in an area where these activities are available. But for the rest of us who aren’t so fortunate here are some winter birthday party ideas for you!
Frozen Party
One of the first ideas that come to mind is a Frozen Party. You can’t get any more wintery than that!
It’s the perfect theme for your little princess, maybe not so perfect for your little prince. If you do decide on a Frozen party for a little boy you can focus on Olaf instead of the princesses![spacer height=”-20px”]
Winter Wonderland
A Winter Wonderland party is a good alternative if your child isn’t into the Frozen thing.
It’s pretty much the same as a Frozen Party only without the princesses. [spacer height=”-20px”]
Sledding Party
Take the kids outside for some sledding and other snow activities. Okay, this only works if there’s snow outside.
Then usher them into the house for a hearty lunch! Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches are my favorite cold weather comfort foods.
Setting up a hot cocoa bar will add to the fun!
Click here for more sledding party ideas from the Spruce.
Beach Party
By the end of January you’ll probably be dreaming of sun drenched beaches, so why not bring the beach to you!
Throw a Beach Party! It’s a great theme for teens and tweens. You can center it around Disney’s Teen Beach Party movie or use your own ideas.
Hang posters and pictures of the beach. Add a palm tree or two and some plastic pails and you’ve got a beach party.
Serve a refreshing fruit salad to give it a tropical feel and don’t forget the Hawaiian Punch!

Whenever we have a large family get together with lots of kids we like to set up a special table Kids’ Table. Not only does it frees up room on the dining table it makes them feel special, and keeps the kids entertained during the meal.
This works great on Thanksgiving! Set up a kids’ Thanksgiving craft table within view of adults so you can keep an eye on them. Keep them busy coloring their own place mat before the meal. A cute pilgrim hat crayon holder on each place setting keeps crayons hopefully on the table and not the floor! The table can convert into a craft table after the meal to keep kids busy while adults clean-up, watch the game, or just visit.
Remember it doesn’t have to be fancy, just FUN!
Here are some cute ideas from Fiskars to help you set up your own Thanksgiving Kids’ Table. For cheap craft ideas click here! For fun treat ideas click here!
Make each child a table card with his or her name using a brown paper bag, cardstock, and foam letters. Trim the bag with pinking edgers, push the pointy corners in, fill with newspaper or better yet a popcorn ball and form into shape. Insert bone cut out from cardstock and staple close. Glue foam letters on.
Set sail with this “Mayflower” cup. Cut out a circle of blue cardstock for the coaster. Cut out the sails from thin foam, punch holes on the top and bottom, thread in straws and plop in to brown paper cups.
Pilgrim Hat crayon holder using paper cups, cardstock, and construction paper. Cut out the bottom of a black paper cup with a craft knife. Glue it on upside down to a circle cut from black cardstock, glue on construction paper band and buckle.
Thankful Tree made from cardstock as your centerpiece. Cut out a tree shape from brown cardstock. Fold each in half lengthwise. Glue folds together to make tree stand up. Cut out leaves from construction paper. Glue leaves to tree.
Prefer a Turkey crayon holder? Make these pinecone turkeys from Amanda’s Parties to go.

Or just cover the entire table with brown paper, you can buy them in rolls, and have the kids go at it! That’s what The Frugal Homemaker did![spacer height=”20px” id=”2″]
This idea from Rusty and Rosy turns juice boxes into turkeys.

A popcorn filled paper bag turkey doubles as a centerpiece and a snack. Great idea from One Charming Party.
