Art Deco Hat – FREE Pattern

I recently made a pattern for a pair of Art Deco legwarmers for my daughter.  I loved the pattern so much I decided to make a pattern for a matching Art Deco hat.  I gave her the set for Christmas and she loved it!Art Deco Hat

I was going for a 1920’s vintage look hat and decided on this cloche style which repeated the design of the legwarmers.  I added a large flower and accented it with this large pearl and rhinestone button I found at Walmart.  I used Red Heart #4 Worsted yarn in Heather Gray, but you can make it in any color and accent it with either a flower or large bow.  If you have a large brooch you can pin that on instead of the button.  The idea here is a Gatsby like hat, and they did love their bling back in those days!

You mention that you made it for your daughter – is it an adult size or child size?

Sorry it took so long to respond, I was on vacation. Anyway the hat is adult size.

If I remember correctly there should be 13 clusters in that round

I can’t come up with 52 stitches on row 16. If there are 13 clusters, 2 decreases per cluster, I come up with 78. The link to pdf has different instructions for this row really like the pattern so any ideas?

I revised the pattern just last week when I made a bun beanie version, sorry I forgot to revise the pdf. I am now counting stitches on the hat I have here, let me get back to you and will let you know what I worked out. Thanks

I am so sorry for the confusion. I was trying to work the pattern into a bun beanie and found there were issues since I already sold all the hats in this pattern I couldn’t do a count so I ended up reworking it both as the original hat and as a bun beanie which will publish next week. Anyway let’s back track – by rd 8 you should have 56 HDC. Next round starts the clusters so the best way is to follow the revised pattern and make 9 Clusters & 9SC – Next round (10) is the V-stitch round – you should have 9 VS & 9 CH5 spaces. Rounds 9 & 10 establish the pattern foundation – rounds 11 & 12 continue the pattern as do rounds 13-15. Round 16 is where you start the decrease and create the bottom border – here you after the ch2 which counts as your first SC and should be at the first stitch of the cluster below it – then you SC in 4th. stitch of that cluster and SC in last stitch of that cluster (so for every cluster you will SC in 1st, 4th, 7th stitch) – then one SC on either side of the SC in the previous round. At the end of this round you should have 45 SC. Next two rounds also will have 45 stitches. I double checked this on the bun beanie I have and the count is good. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
